Reading: Luke 2v22-40
22 And when the days for their purification according to the Law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord: “Every firstborn male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what has been stated in the Law of the Lord: “A pair of turtledoves or two young doves.”
25 And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s [b]Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law, 28 then he took Him in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 “Now, Lord, You are letting Your bond-servant depart in peace,
According to Your word;
30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation,
31 Which You have prepared in the presence of all the peoples:
32 A light for revelation for the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”
33 And His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him. 34 And Simeon blessed them and said to His mother Mary, “Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and [f]rise of many in Israel, and as a sign to be [g]opposed— 35 and a sword will pierce your own soul—to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”
36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband for seven years after her marriage
, 37 and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She did not leave the temple grounds, serving night and day with fasts and prayers. 38 And at that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak about Him to all those who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.
We pray this Christmas time, for people and situations that are on our hearts, for people who cannot afford to heat their homes or buy food, for those on strike, for those on long hospitals waiting lists, for Gaza and Israel, Ukraine, Russia, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Hong Kong, China, our governments, for those who are alone and those suffering with depression, for the homeless, asylum seekers and refugees and victims of climate change.
May we not fail you though we face great dangers.
Give us your peace, your wisdom and your strength. Amen
Take us to Bethlehem
House of bread
Where the empty are filled
The poor find riches
And the rich recognise their poverty
Where all kneel, worship
And are fed.

22 E quando se completaram os dias da sua purificação, segundo a Lei de Moisés, levaram-no a Jerusalém para o apresentar ao Senhor 23 (como está escrito na Lei do Senhor: Todo primogénito do sexo masculino que abrir o ventre será consagrado ao Senhor), 24 e para oferecer um sacrifício segundo o que está declarado na Lei do Senhor: “Um par de rolas ou duas rolinhas jovens.”
25 E havia em Jerusalém um homem cujo nome era Simeão; e este homem era justo e piedoso, esperando a consolação de Israel; e o Espírito Santo estava sobre ele. 26 E lhe fora revelado pelo Espírito Santo que ele não veria a morte antes de ver o [b]Cristo do Senhor. 27 E ele foi pelo Espírito ao templo; e quando os pais trouxeram o menino Jesus, para cumprir com ele o costume da Lei, 28 então ele o tomou em seus braços, e louvou a Deus, e disse:
29 “Agora, Senhor, estás deixando teu servo partir em paz,
Segundo a tua palavra;

32 Uma luz para revelação aos gentios,
E a glória do teu povo Israel.”
33 E seu pai e sua mãe ficaram admirados com as coisas que estavam sendo ditas sobre ele. 34 E Simeão os abençoou e disse a Maria, sua mãe: “Eis que este menino está destinado para queda e [f]ascensão de muitos em Israel, e como sinal para ser [g]contrariado — 35 e uma espada traspassará sua própria alma — para que os pensamentos de muitos corações sejam revelados.”
36 E havia uma profetisa, Ana, filha de Fanuel, da tribo de Aser. Ela era avançada em anos e tinha vivido com seu marido por sete anos depois de seu casamento
, 37 e depois como uma viúva até a idade de oitenta e quatro anos. Ela não deixou o terreno do templo, servindo noite e dia com jejuns e orações. 38 E naquele mesmo momento ela se aproximou e começou a dar graças a Deus, e continuou a falar sobre Ele a todos aqueles que estavam ansiosos pela redenção de Jerusalém.
Oramos neste tempo de Natal, pelas pessoas e situações que estão em nossos corações, pelas pessoas que não podem pagar para aquecer suas casas ou comprar comida, pelos que estão em greve, pelos que estão em longas listas de espera em hospitais, por Gaza e Israel, Ucrânia, Rússia, Irã, Síria, Iêmen, Hong Kong, China, nossos governos, pelos que estão sozinhos e pelos que sofrem de depressão, pelos sem-teto, requerentes de asilo e refugiados e vítimas das mudanças climáticas.
Que não falhemos com você, embora enfrentemos grandes perigos.
Dê-nos sua paz, sua sabedoria e sua força. Amém

25耶路撒冷有一個人，名叫西緬。而呢個人係義士同虔誠嘅，期待以色列嘅安慰。聖靈就喺佢身上。 26聖靈已經向佢顯示，佢喺未見過主嘅基督之前，就唔會見到死亡。 27佢就借住靈入咗聖殿。當父母帶咗個仔耶穌入嚟，為佢執行律法嘅習俗，28佢就抱住佢，祝福神，話：
29「主啊，你要畀你嘅奴仆平安噉離開，
根據你嘅話；
30因為我嘅眼睛見過你嘅救恩，
31你喺萬民面前所準備嘅：
32為外邦人啟示嘅光，
同埋你嘅子民以色列嘅榮耀。」

願我哋唔好令你失望，即使我哋面對住好大嘅危險。
畀我哋你嘅平安、你嘅智慧同你嘅力量。阿門
