John 14v15-21
In this passage in John, Jesus links truth, keeping his commandments and the Holy Spirit together. Greek's were obsessed with the search for truth. Our society sadly isn’t. John’s gospel is written probably in about 90AD and in the context of Greek and Roman philosophy and this preoccupation with truth. Pilate asked Jesus what is truth? The Jewish leaders in John's gospel represent the orthodoxy of their day. Their tradition gave them a divine right to say what was right and what was wrong. But it wasn’t truth and Jesus showed them up, which is why they hated him. People don’t like their lies being exposed. Their truth excluded people from God and was about injustice. But God’s truth always leads to empathy for others. Gods Spirit reveals Truth.
Truth is not what our parents or the government say. When we realise this we start to grow up, to individuate. The truth of our society is a post Christian capitalist ethic devoid of spiritual roots. It is not truth, but false truth. Truth is not materialism or the Party line or what the status quo of Britain thinks.
Truth is not academic research. Scientific truth can change.
Truth is not necessarily found in religious rites and doctrines, although God may pop up occasionally.
People can be seduced into false truths with devastating consequences. Look at Fascism and Communism. They are literally deadly. Be careful. Fascism is creeping on us today. There are voices that are not speaking the Truth. Test what leaders are saying against the words of Jesus.
Some people don’t bother with truth. They just bumble on through life and manage to avoid asking serious questions even in the face of crisis. Truth can be very divisive, frightening. People often cover it up. Some people today do not believe that COVID 19 can kill them or their loved ones.
But truth has a habit of popping up, like God. Like Jesus. You can’t suffocate or bury the truth.
Jesus says that he himself is the truth. He embodied the truth. Not Christian doctrine or rites, but Jesus himself. Religions often supplant the truth, undermine it. We as Christians are not about religion but about following Jesus. We are called to embody truth even when those around us abandon it. Even when the Truth is mocked. Despised.
And the way we access this truth is by keeping "in" with Jesus, with God, because they are the same, listening to Gods voice within us. Read the gospel texts, the words of Jesus.
We speak the truth, live the truth. Because we are the people of God, the followers of Jesus. My sheep hear my voice. God’s truth heals you, in your mind and body. This is Shalom. This is what salvation is about. Wholeness. The truth really does set us free. Amen

ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਚ, ਯਿਸੂ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਆਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਇਕਠੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ. ਯੂਨਾਨ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਸੱਚਾਈਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਸਨ। ਸਾਡਾ ਸਮਾਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ. ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਖਬਰੀ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਲਗਭਗ 90 ਏ ਡੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਨਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਮਨ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਪਿਲਾਤੁਸ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਸੱਚ ਕੀ ਹੈ? ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਖਬਰੀ ਵਿਚਲੇਯਹੂਦੀ ਆਗੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਕੱਟੜਪੰਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ. ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੀਗ਼ਲਤ ਸੀ. ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਕੀਤੀ. ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਨੇਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਇਨਸਾਫੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੀ. ਪਰ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਸੱਚ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਹਮਦਰਦੀ ਵੱਲ ਖੜਦਾ ਹੈ.
