Reflection: John 15. 1-8
There is a famous vine at Hampton Court and my mother used to work for the Chief Architect of the Department of Environment. She asked him for a cutting. It arrived in a pot with ER on the outside. It flowered bur never produced grapes and when they moved house my father dug it up and it didn’t survive the trauma.
My mother’s great uncle went to Australia with 15/- as a teenager. Through hard work he became a peach farmer and eventually an ambassador for the Australian government. He visited England in the 1920s and was given a cutting of the Hampton Court vine. Unlike my father he cultivated it successfully to become an enormous vine on his peach farm.
I had a vine in my garden. I asked my mum to buy it for my birthday to celebrate my new garden. It had a few dry shoots that I pruned and because I hate wasting things I put them in the ground. That was in the Autumn so I forgot all about it until about 6 weeks later. I was puzzled because the vine had no leaves, so I started watering it, every day! At the Farmers Market we had a stall next to the Halfpenny Green Vineyard one, so I asked their advice-Weather was the answer. Everything was late because of the long cold Spring. Keep it sheltered and well drained until the temperature warms up. By the next months Farmers Market not only was the vine beginning to sprout but to my amazement so were the cuttings and despite dreadful soil conditions.
I am a new gardener but even I know the importance of looking after my plants. First it has to have the correct soil not too acid or too alkaline. Then it has to be adjusted depending on whether its sandy or clay by adding loam, compost and manure. Then you have to plant it in the right place in sun or shade and give the water it needs but not too much. If I don’t prune my fruit trees they would grow wild and bear little fruit.
Jesus in John's 15 likens himself to the True Vine! A surprise perhaps. God is the Vinegrower, like the man at Halfpenny Green. Jesus speaks of branches removed that are not bearing fruit and pruning branches so they grow fewer but better fruit. By hearing Jesus the passage says we have started to be pruned. Then he has a kind of symbiotic picture. He lives in us and we in him. We are like branches of the main vine and we cannot exist apart from it. In fact pruned branches are usually discarded.
Furthermore if we have that symbiosis and are aware of God’s presence in our lives, then we will know what is of God and we are promised that God will bless us, because if we do this we will be true disciples of Jesus. The main ingredient of this symbiosis, this sap, is of course Gods spirit and how do we know what is Gods Spirit? It is shown through Jesus commandments which he asks us to keep. According to Jesus it is summed up in loving God and loving our neighbour as ourself-and the fruit we bear is joy!
It all sounds very easy doesn’t it! But its a paradox that at the worst and most busy times we must spend more time with God to be at one. If we don’t we will end up in a dizzy mess. How much we need that symbiosis at this time in our lives! Amen

Refleksi: Yohanes 15. 1-8
Ada tanaman merambat yang terkenal di Hampton Court dan ibu saya pernah bekerja untuk Kepala Arsitek di Departemen Lingkungan. Dia memintanya untuk dipotong. Itu tiba di pot dengan UGD di luar. Itu berbunga tetapi tidak pernah menghasilkan anggur dan ketika mereka pindah rumah ayah saya menggalinya dan itu tidak selamat dari trauma.
Paman buyut ibu saya pergi ke Australia dengan usia 15 / - saat remaja. Melalui kerja keras ia menjadi petani persik dan akhirnya menjadi duta pemerintah Australia. Dia mengunjungi Inggris pada 1920-an dan diberi potongan pohon anggur Hampton Court. Tidak seperti ayah saya, dia berhasil membudidayakannya menjadi pohon anggur yang sangat besar di pertanian persiknya.
Saya punya pokok anggur di kebun saya. Saya meminta ibu saya untuk membelinya untuk ulang tahun saya untuk merayakan taman baru saya. Ia memiliki beberapa pucuk kering yang saya pangkas dan karena saya benci membuang-buang barang, saya menaruhnya di tanah. Itu terjadi di musim gugur jadi saya lupa semuanya sampai sekitar 6 minggu kemudian. Saya bingung karena pohon anggur tidak memiliki daun, jadi saya mulai menyiraminya setiap hari! Saya seorang tukang kebun baru tetapi bahkan saya tahu pentingnya merawat tanaman saya. Pertama harus memiliki tanah yang benar, tidak terlalu asam atau terlalu basa. Kemudian harus disesuaikan apakah berpasir atau liat dengan menambahkan lempung, kompos dan pupuk kandang. Maka Anda harus menanamnya di tempat yang tepat di bawah sinar matahari atau teduh dan memberikan air yang dibutuhkannya tetapi tidak terlalu banyak. Jika saya tidak memangkas pohon buah saya, mereka akan tumbuh liar dan menghasilkan sedikit buah.
Yesus dalam 15 Yohanes menyamakan dirinya dengan Pokok Anggur yang Benar! Mungkin kejutan. Tuhan adalah Vinegrower, seperti pria di Halfpenny Green. Yesus berbicara tentang cabang yang dicabut yang tidak menghasilkan buah dan memangkas cabang sehingga mereka tumbuh lebih sedikit tetapi menghasilkan buah yang lebih baik. Dengan mendengar Yesus, bagian itu mengatakan kita sudah mulai dipangkas. Kemudian dia memiliki semacam gambaran simbiosis. Dia tinggal di dalam kita dan kita di dalam dia. Kita seperti cabang dari pokok pokok dan kita tidak bisa hidup terpisah darinya. Padahal cabang yang dipangkas biasanya dibuang.
Lebih jauh lagi jika kita memiliki simbiosis itu dan menyadari kehadiran Tuhan dalam hidup kita, maka kita akan tahu apa itu Tuhan dan kita dijanjikan bahwa Tuhan akan memberkati kita, karena jika kita melakukan ini kita akan menjadi murid Yesus yang sejati. Bahan utama dari simbiosis ini, getah ini tentu saja adalah Ruh Dewa dan bagaimana kita mengetahui apa itu Ruh Dewa? Itu ditunjukkan melalui perintah-perintah Yesus yang Dia minta untuk kita taati. Menurut Yesus itu diringkas dalam mencintai Tuhan dan mencintai sesama kita seperti diri kita sendiri - dan buah yang kita hasilkan adalah sukacita!
Semuanya terdengar sangat mudah bukan! Tetapi ini merupakan paradoks bahwa pada saat-saat terburuk dan paling sibuk, kita harus menghabiskan lebih banyak waktu dengan Tuhan untuk menjadi satu. Jika tidak, kita akan berakhir dalam kekacauan pusing. Betapa kita membutuhkan simbiosis itu saat ini dalam hidup kita! Amin

Il est arrivé dans un pot avec ER à l'extérieur. Elle fleurit mais n’a jamais produit de raisin et quand ils ont déménagé, mon père l’a déterrée et elle n’a pas survécu au traumatisme.
Le grand-oncle de ma mère est allé en Australie avec 15 / - à l'adolescence. Grâce à un travail acharné, il est devenu un pêcheur et finalement un ambassadeur du gouvernement australien. Il a visité l'Angleterre dans les années 1920 et a reçu une coupe de la vigne de Hampton Court. Contrairement à mon père, il l'a cultivé avec succès pour devenir une énorme vigne dans sa ferme de pêcheries.
J'avais une vigne dans mon jardin. J'ai demandé à ma mère de l'acheter pour mon anniversaire afin de fêter mon nouveau jardin. Il y avait quelques pousses sèches que j'ai taillées et parce que je déteste gaspiller des choses, je les ai mises en terre. C'était à l'automne, alors j'ai tout oublié jusqu'à environ 6 semaines plus tard. J'étais perplexe car la vigne n'avait pas de feuilles, alors j'ai commencé à l'arroser, tous les jours! Au marché des fermiers, nous avions un stand à côté de celui de Halfpenny Green Vineyard, alors j'ai demandé leur conseil - la météo était la réponse. Tout était en retard à cause du long printemps froid. Gardez-le à l'abri et bien drainé jusqu'à ce que la température se réchauffe. Au cours des mois suivants, Farmers Market a non seulement commencé à germer, mais à ma grande surprise, les boutures et les conditions du sol ont été épouvantables.
Je suis un nouveau jardinier, mais même moi, je connais l'importance de prendre soin de mes plantes. Tout d'abord, il doit avoir un sol correct ni trop acide ni trop alcalin. Ensuite, il faut l'ajuster selon qu'il soit sableux ou argileux en ajoutant du terreau, du compost et du fumier. Ensuite, il faut le planter au bon endroit au soleil ou à l'ombre et lui donner l'eau dont il a besoin mais pas trop. Si je ne taille pas mes arbres fruitiers, ils pousseront à l'état sauvage et porteront peu de fruits.
Jésus dans Jean 15 se compare à la Vraie Vigne! Une surprise peut-être. Dieu est le vigneron, comme l'homme de Halfpenny Green. Jésus parle de branches enlevées qui ne portent pas de fruits et de branches de taille afin qu'elles produisent moins mais de meilleurs fruits. En entendant Jésus, le passage dit que nous avons commencé à être élagués. Ensuite, il a une sorte d'image symbiotique. Il vit en nous et nous en lui. Nous sommes comme les sarments de la vigne principale et nous ne pouvons pas exister en dehors d'elle. En fait, les branches taillées sont généralement jetées.
De plus, si nous avons cette symbiose et que nous sommes conscients de la présence de Dieu dans nos vies, alors nous saurons ce qui est de Dieu et on nous promet que Dieu nous bénira, car si nous faisons cela, nous serons de vrais disciples de Jésus. L'ingrédient principal de cette symbiose, cette sève, est bien sûr l'esprit de Dieu et comment savons-nous ce qu'est l'esprit de Dieu? Il est montré à travers les commandements de Jésus qu'il nous demande de garder. Selon Jésus, cela se résume à aimer Dieu et aimer notre prochain comme nous-mêmes - et le fruit que nous portons est la joie!
Tout cela semble très simple n’est-ce pas! Mais c'est un paradoxe que dans les pires moments et les plus occupés, nous devons passer plus de temps avec Dieu pour ne faire qu'un. Si nous ne le faisons pas, nous finirons dans un désordre vertigineux. Combien nous avons besoin de cette symbiose à ce moment de notre vie! Amen
