Reflection on Matthew 16v21-28
Jesus wanted the secret of who he was to be kept a secret and he kept a low profile with regard to his messianic credentials to dampen popular, political, messianic aspirations, for those "with eyes to see". How different to some of our leaders today!
Having predicted his death, Jesus then speaks about cross-bearing discipleship. Not a popular concept even today! Why would you willingly choose this? But he warned that disciples must be ready to face martyrdom. I wonder how many of us would leave at this point?
The suffering messiah meant also a suffering messianic community. In its original context to 'take up his cross' meant only one thing, to die with Jesus in Jerusalem. Jesus' call to follow him was not just to the disciples, but to "the crowd". It was embarrassing, shameful.
A suffering messiah is not easy for the disciples to come to grips with. He will be rejected, killed and after three days, like Jonah in the big fish, he will rise.
Peter told Jesus off for talking of such things and Jesus rebuked Peter. Out of my sight! Get back with the disciples. Aligning Peter with Satan is extremely harsh. Your thoughts are not God's thoughts, but man's. But we can all align ourselves with Satan and have wrong thoughts, say the wrong things and do the wrong things. That is part of our human condition.
Then he called the crowd to him. Jesus was calling all of them to discipleship like he is calling us.
If anyone really does want to follow me he must deny himself and take up his cross said Jesus. The image would conjure up cross-bearing criminals. A badge of shame. Who would want that? But that is our call.
Whoever wishes to save his life and follows, will save his life. Life here meaning soul, psyche as used by Jung. We are to abandon the destructive path of others and choose another path, the narrow way and loose everything, but gain our soul. And whoever doesn’t will lose their soul. What does anyone gain by winning the whole world at the cost of his life?
There are many things to choose at the moment. Protection of everybody or just for the few, capitalism or the future of the planet, equality for everyone or discrimination, care for the vulnerable, homeless, destitute, disposed or cold heartedness? It seems easy to see what is right but its hard to follow it through. May God give us wisdom and courage to make the right choices for the sake of ourselves, our children and our planet. Amen

反思馬太福音 16v21-28

凡欲救其性命而追隨者，必救其性命。 這裡的“生命”指的是榮格所說的“靈魂”、“心靈”。 我們要放棄別人的破壞性道路，選擇另一條道路，即窄路，失去一切，但贏得我們的靈魂。 誰不這樣做，就會失去靈魂。 一個人以犧牲自己的生命為代價贏得全世界，能得到什麼？
目前有很多事情需要選擇。 保護所有人還是只保護少數人，資本主義還是地球的未來，人人平等還是歧視，照顧弱勢群體、無家可歸者、貧困者、脾氣暴躁的人還是冷酷無情的人？ 看到什麼是正確的似乎很容易，但堅持到底卻很難。 願上帝賜予我們智慧和勇氣，為我們自己、我們的孩子和我們的星球做出正確的選擇。 阿門

Размышление над Матфея 16:21-28.
Иисус хотел, чтобы секрет того, кем он был, оставался в секрете, и он вел себя сдержанно в отношении своих мессианских полномочий, чтобы ослабить народные, политические, мессианские устремления для тех, «имеющих глаза, чтобы видеть». Насколько они отличаются от некоторых наших сегодняшних лидеров!
Предсказав свою смерть, Иисус затем говорит о крестном ученичестве. Не популярная концепция даже сегодня! Почему вы добровольно выбрали это? Но он предупредил, что ученики должны быть готовы принять мученическую смерть. Интересно, сколько из нас уйдет в этот момент?
Страдающий мессия означал и страдающую мессианскую общину. В первоначальном контексте «взять свой крест» означало только одно — умереть вместе с Иисусом в Иерусалиме. Призыв Иисуса следовать за Ним был обращен не только к ученикам, но и к «толпе». Это было неловко, стыдно.
Ученикам нелегко справиться со страдающим мессией. Он будет отвергнут, убит и через три дня, как Иона в большой рыбе, воскреснет.
Петр отругал Иисуса за такие разговоры, и Иисус упрекнул Петра. С глаз долой! Возвращайся с учениками. Сравнивать Петра с сатаной чрезвычайно жестоко. Ваши мысли — это мысли не Бога, а человека. Но мы все можем присоединиться к сатане и иметь неправильные мысли, говорить неправильные вещи и делать неправильные вещи. Это часть нашего человеческого состояния.
Затем он призвал толпу к себе. Иисус призывал их всех к ученичеству так же, как он призывает нас.
Если кто-то действительно хочет следовать за мной, он должен отвергнуть себя и взять свой крест, сказал Иисус. Этот образ вызывал в воображении преступников, несущих крест. Знак позора. Кто бы этого хотел? Но это наш призыв.
Кто желает сохранить свою жизнь и следует за ней, тот спасет свою жизнь. Жизнь здесь означает душу, психику, как ее использовал Юнг. Мы должны отказаться от разрушительного пути других и выбрать другой путь, узкий путь и потерять все, но обрести свою душу. А кто не сделает, тот потеряет свою душу. Что получит человек, завоевав весь мир ценой своей жизни?
На данный момент есть много вещей, которые можно выбрать. Защита всех или только немногих, капитализм или будущее планеты, равенство для всех или дискриминация, забота об уязвимых, бездомных, обездоленных, предрасположенных или бессердечных? Кажется, легко увидеть, что правильно, но трудно следовать этому. Пусть Бог даст нам мудрости и смелости сделать правильный выбор ради себя, наших детей и нашей планеты. Аминь

Réflexion sur Matthieu 16v21-28
Jésus voulait que le secret de qui il était restait secret et il a gardé un profil bas en ce qui concerne ses références messianiques afin de freiner les aspirations populaires, politiques et messianiques, pour ceux « qui ont des yeux pour voir ». Comme c’est différent de certains de nos dirigeants aujourd’hui !
Après avoir prédit sa mort, Jésus parle ensuite de la condition de disciple porteur de croix. Ce n’est pas un concept populaire, même aujourd’hui ! Pourquoi choisiriez-vous volontiers cela ? Mais il a prévenu que les disciples devaient être prêts à affronter le martyre. Je me demande combien d’entre nous partiraient à ce stade ?
Le Messie souffrant signifiait aussi une communauté messianique souffrante. Dans son contexte originel, « prendre sa croix » ne signifiait qu'une seule chose : mourir avec Jésus à Jérusalem. L'appel de Jésus à le suivre ne s'adressait pas seulement aux disciples, mais à « la foule ». C'était embarrassant, honteux.
Il n’est pas facile pour les disciples d’appréhender un Messie souffrant. Il sera rejeté, tué et au bout de trois jours, comme Jonas dans le gros poisson, il ressuscitera.
Pierre a reproché à Jésus de parler de telles choses et Jésus a réprimandé Pierre. Hors de ma vue! Revenez avec les disciples. Aligner Pierre sur Satan est extrêmement dur. Vos pensées ne sont pas celles de Dieu, mais celles des hommes. Mais nous pouvons tous nous aligner sur Satan et avoir de mauvaises pensées, dire de mauvaises choses et faire de mauvaises choses. Cela fait partie de notre condition humaine.
Puis il appela la foule à lui. Jésus les appelait tous à devenir disciples comme il nous appelle.
Si quelqu'un veut vraiment me suivre, il doit renoncer à lui-même et prendre sa croix, dit Jésus. L’image évoquerait des criminels portant une croix. Un signe de honte. Qui voudrait ça ? Mais c'est notre appel.
Celui qui veut sauver sa vie et le suit, lui sauvera la vie. La vie signifie ici l'âme, la psyché telle qu'utilisée par Jung. Nous devons abandonner le chemin destructeur des autres et choisir un autre chemin, le chemin étroit et tout perdre, mais gagner notre âme. Et celui qui ne le fera pas perdra son âme. Qu’est-ce que quelqu’un gagne à conquérir le monde entier au prix de sa vie ?
Il y a beaucoup de choses à choisir en ce moment. Protection de tous ou seulement de quelques-uns, capitalisme ou avenir de la planète, égalité pour tous ou discrimination, soins aux personnes vulnérables, sans abri, démunies, disposées ou insensibles ? Il semble facile de voir ce qui est juste, mais il est difficile de le suivre jusqu'au bout. Que Dieu nous donne la sagesse et le courage de faire les bons choix pour notre bien, celui de nos enfants et de notre planète. Amen
