Holy Week Thursday, Last Supper and Foot washing,14th April 2022,

Tonight, we remember:

Jesus washed the feet of his disciples

This year, as we all celebrate Holy Week, you may want to prepare your own altar or sacred space that you can use as a focus for prayer each day.

Find a small table, or a low shelf that you can see from your chair, place some ordinary things on it to make it something special. For example:

…a cloth

…a cross,

…a candle (battery or real, whatever’s safest)

…an icon or religious picture

…something from the garden (a stone, a branch, …some daffodils or greenery)

…any object that has a special meaning for you

Remembering the Washing of the disciples’ feet

Washing hands has become very central for us.

Before you sit down for your evening meal, wash your hands thoroughly, remembering not just how we need to keep our hands clean at this time, but also how Jesus used water to wash the feet of his disciples.

We gather as followers of Jesus and remember the way that he showed us.

We remember that God delivered the Israelites from Egypt

We read Mark 14v22-25

On the night in which Jesus was betrayed by his disciple Judas, he took the bread, gave thanks to God, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: “This is my body, which is broken for you.  Do this in memory of me.”

When the supper was over he took the cup, gave thanks to God, gave it to his disciples and said, “Drink from this all of you, this is my blood of the new covenant which is poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.  Do this, as often as you drink of it, in memory of me.”

We share bread, wine and food (as is appropriate).

We read John 13v1-11

He began to wash the disciples’ feet

We would normally wash one another’s but do feet or hands (as is appropriate).

We read Mark 14v26-31
This very night, before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times

We read Mark 14v32-42 While he prayed, the disciples slept

We read Mark 14v43-46 He went up to him…and said Rabbi and kissed him

We read Mark 14v53-62But he was silent and did not answer

We read Mark 14v66-72. At that moment the cock crowed for a second time.

We leave the table in silence and go out.
